Sikh Power: 1708-1849 AD

The Sikhs were constantly harrassed by the Muslim forces. From 1708, Sikhs were struggling for independence under the leadership of Banda. In 1716, Banda and his followers were killed by Mughals.

In 1739, when Nadir Shah invaded Delhi, Mughal hold on Punjab weakened. In 1764, Sikhs occupied Lahore. The whole country from the Jhelum to Sutlej was partitioned among the Sikh chiefs. By the year 1773, the Sikhs' rule extended from Shahranpur in the east to Attock in the west, and from Multan in the south to Kangra and Jammu in the north.

Ranjit Singh organised Sikhs into a national monarchy. Will add more on him later.

Their rule was put to an end by the British East India Company.
